Harassment is where someone creates an atmosphere that makes you feel uncomfortable - this could be because you feel offended, intimidated or humiliated. 

Bullying in the workplace takes many forms. It may be covert and insidious or a one-off blatant incident. Either way, bullying and harassment are always unacceptable. The course will help managers to recognise bullying and create a robust policy.

  • The Bullying and Harassment training is suitable for employers, HR staff, managers, and supervisors who are responsible for the health, safety, and welfare of staff and have a duty to proactively prevent workplace bullying and harassment. 

What’s Covered? 

Defining Bullying 

  • What is bullying? Understand the full definition of bullying. Be able to explain what bullying is to your peers and be able to explain how to effectively prevent bullying. Understand how it will affect different people and what to do if you find out someone is being bullied. 

  • The costs of bullying. Understand the financial implications of bullying. Be able to explain why bullying will have a financial impact on your business and how to prevent it. 

  • Preventing bullying. Why is preventing bullying so important? Understand how to prevent bullying and how bullying can affect different people. Be able to confidently explain what to do what you discover that there is bullying going on within your workforce. 

  • Anti-bullying policy. Do you know your anti-bullying policy? Understand what an anti-bullying policy is and how to implement it. How does your policy have an impact on bullying? 

Guidelines and Procedures 

  • Your current bullying and harassment policies. Do you know your current policies? Do you understand them? Be able to explain what bullying and harassment policies are, what they work to prevent and how they affect you and your team. 

  • Professional standards. What are professional standards and what do they impact? Understand what professional standards means, what it entails and how they impact your team. Understand why it is important to have professional standards and what happens when you are not professional. 

  • Formal complains procedure. Every business has a formal complaints procedure. How well do you know yours? Understand what a complaints procedure is, what it aims to solve and how it can affect you and your team.  

  • Mediation. What is mediation? Understand what mediation is, what it entails and what it aims to do. Be able to accurately explain how mediation affects your team and the process. 

Organizational Responsibility 

  • Reasonable steps to take. Do you know what steps to take when you discover bullying? Understand the reasonable steps that you have to take when you discover bullying. Be able to explain what effect these steps will have and why you have to take them. 

  • Handling complaints. You will get complaints during your career and it is very important that you know how to handle them properly. Understand your complaints procedure, what it does and what it hopes to achieve. Explain how it may impact people in different ways. 

  • Confidentiality. How important is confidentiality? Understand why we must keep certain bits of information confidential and what this allows us to do. 

What is NOT bullying and harassment 

  • Risk factors that lead to bullying. Understand what risk factors are and why they may sometimes lead to bullying. Be able to identify risk factors in different people and explain how it may affect them. 

  • How to develop a healthy culture. How important is a healthy work culture? Understand what a healthy culture is, how to develop one and how they improve productivity. 

  • Individual responsibility. What is practical responsibility? Understand what practical responsibility someone may have, how it can affect someone and how to identify it.
