Employers recognize that excellent project management skills are of vital importance in the workplace. The creation, implementation, management and delivery of a successful project cannot be underestimated. Delays or failures within a project can prove costly to a business so having someone in control of a project who has the right skillset to run, monitor and communicate a project is essential. 

Who’s it For?

This course is for those wanting to participate in projects of all sizes. You'll typically have some pre-existing project management knowledge. It’s the ideal next step for anyone holding the APM Project Fundamentals Qualification. 

What’s Covered?

Professional Management 

  • Managerial Skills. What are managerial skills? Understand what skills are considered ‘managerial’. Be able to confidently explain how to develop these skills. Understand how to identify these skills in other people and how to develop them. 

  • Developmental Needs. Understand how to identify individual developmental needs in your team. Be able to confidently explain how to develop these needs and how this affects you and your team. 

Program Management 

  • Tools and techniques in project management. Understand the wide variety of tools and techniques in project management. Be able to explain how to develop your techniques and how to help your team develop theirs. 

  • Identify project objectives. It is important to know how to identify objectives for a project. Understand what objectives are, why they are so important to a project and how to effectively identify them early on in the project. 

  • Planning and scheduling skills. These two skills are vital for project management. Fully understand why planning and scheduling skills are so important, especially within a project. Be able to confidently explain how to develop these skills so they are the best they can be. 

Portfolio Management 

  • What is a portfolio? Fully understand and be able to explain what a portfolio is, how it is used and what it is used for. Know how to improve a portfolio and how to build one from scratch. 

  • How to build a portfolio. Building a portfolio is a critical skill because they are so important. Understand how to build a portfolio, the dos and don’ts and what to put in a portfolio and what not to put in there. 

  • How to manage and update your portfolio. Having a portfolio is incredibly important for your career and it is just as important to keep it updated. Learn how to manage your portfolio and what to do when it needs an update. 

Business Strategy 

  • Understand strategy and strategic management. What is strategy? What is strategic management? Understand these two skills and what they are individually used for. Be able to effectively develop these two skills to improve your overall performance. 

  • Critical analyzation. What is critical analysis? Understand the definition of critical analyzation, what it is used for and how to use it in different situations. Also understand how to develop this skill and how it is used within your role.
