Session Overview

Is interviewing a skill or simply a matter of judgement? At People Vision HR Consultancy, we believe it is a skill that can be learned and developed. This session will help you refine your skills as an interviewer to ensure you are able to hire the best personnel possible. The session involves many practical elements that will demonstrate how to get the most out of a candidate and, ultimately, make the right selection decision.

Who’s it For? 

  • Our Interview skills training course is for anyone who wants to improve their interviewing skills. Managers and HR people who regularly conduct interviews or for those who are new. 

  • For anyone with recruitment and selection responsibility who wants to better understand how to build equality and diversity into recruitment 



What’s Covered?

Effective Interviewing

  • Questions to ask. Understand what makes a good interview question, be able to ask all the right questions to thoroughly assess a candidate's ability and be able to explain what goes into an effective interview question. 

  • How formal? Be able to understand what makes an interview so formal, be able to confidently assess a candidate and understand why we may need to adjust the formality. 

  • Interviewing methods. Be able to effectively explain the different methods of interviewing and why they are used in their respective situations, be able to understand why we may switch methods and what the individual pros and cons of these are. 

Equality Act 2010

  • What is the equality act. Be able to explain the Equality Act in detail, understand what it means for you and your employees and be able to confidently identify why the equality act is essential for every single business. 

  • How does this affect your business. Be able to correctly identify and explain why and how the Equality Act has an effect on you, your employees and your business. 

  • What does following this act mean. Be able to accurately explain what the act is, how it affects you and what following it means for you and your business. 

Managing Diversity

  • What is diversity. Be able to confidently explain what diversity is and how it affects different people. Also be able to identify the reason for having this act and why it is important. 

  • What does it mean for you and your business. Confidently explain how it impacts your business, your employees and you. 

  • How to make sure you are abiding by the 2010 Equality and Diversity act. Be able to confidently identify and assess your workplace and come to a solid conclusion. 

Interview Structure and Questions

  • How to structure interviews. Assess your interview structure to see if it is a good fit for you and your business. If not, be able to confidently structure new questions keeping the needs of your role in mind. 

  • Effective questions to ask. Understand what effective questions are and how to tailor them to the right candidate. Be able to explain why these are effective questions and why we switch them out every so often. 

  • How to support prospective employees in the interview. Understand why extra support may sometimes be needed, what counts as extra support and why people may need it.
