Situation

People Vision were commissioned to deliver application system training for the high profile Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) being introduced in London, in April 2019. In total 6 experienced project trainers delivered, on behalf of Capita, a training package to over 80 new employees in the business, to include all of the TfL schemes and systems training, enabling the new starters to quickly assimilate their new skills and become an asset in the workplace in time for the introduction of the ULEZ scheme.

Challenge

The training package to be delivered was diverse with a different emphasis depending on the role specific requirements. It was therefore imperative for the trainers to have a flexible approach in order to ensure excellent service delivery. The trainers often had to devise ad hoc training when the curriculum meant there was extra time; with lessons such as time management and customer service being delivered.

There were also IT challenges at the off site training location which meant the trainers needed to ensure they did as much as possible to equip the delegates with the underlying skill to enable them to quickly reach competence levels in the workplace.

Results

The trainers have built a very successful and collaborative relationship with the client which has largely been as a result of enthusiasm, professionalism and a ‘can-do’ attitude to deliver a large project which had not been piloted.

One of the classes achieved an overall class average in the knowledge assessment of 92%.

The delegates, once being introduced into the live environment quickly put into practice their newly learnt skills with excellent feedback from the operations director.

Outcome

Overall, the project has been a real success, with the client having their project delivered to a high standard, with tangible results. The collaborative working relationship which was built is evident and as a result of all those involved having a desire to make the project succeed. Operationally, the project delivered, and the new employees are making a very positive operational impact upon the company.
