Mentoring Programmes
What is a Mentor?
Traditionally, one expects the mentor to be a more mature and experienced individual who can share past experiences and help on some occasions an individual navigate around the political word of work.
Mentoring is used specifically as a form of long term development for the individual. The mentor may be an internal representative or an external individual who brings insight on a different level.
Generally mentoring programmes will be:
- Essentially a supportive form of development, no immediate outputs are required
- Occasionally personal issues can be raised more unlike in coaching where the emphasis is on performance at work.
- Mentoring activities have both organisational and individual goals.
- Focused on helping individuals manage their career plans and reflect on skills gaps
You may be thinking of creating a mentoring programme and need support to devise this or indeed in giving people the skills they need to be excellent mentors.
