HR Case Study - Capita Learning and Development

Situation

Capita Learning and Development is the UK's leading provider of people development and training solutions. They offer over 100 courses at their dedicated training centres throughout the UK, and also provide tailored

in-house training and outsourced development. Their courses provide professional advancement and cutting edge information across the fields of Human Resources, Management, Leadership and Communication, among others.

People Vision are Human Resources and Development consultants who design and deliver training across a range of Human Resources skills. Alyson Pellowe, the

Managing Consultant, began People Vision's working

relationship with Capita in 2006.

Capita Learning & Development

Challenge

  • People Vision were to provide subcontracted trainers to deliver Capita courses to a high standard, enhancing the Capita brand.
  • On receiving notice of available courses People Vision were to source the ideal trainer from among their consultants to ensure the smooth running and consistently excellent delivery of Capita courses and satisfaction for delegates.
  • People Vision were to make responsiveness a key consideration in were to respond swiftly to demands for trainers in different disciplines across the UK.
  • People Vision were to ensure quality control of the training provided by its consultants and liaise with Capita management to further develop the working relationship.

Action

  • Alyson Pellowe developed close working relationships with Stuart Lowry (Director of Learning and Development) and Helen Rekert (Training Centre Coordinator) among other Capita management. Her regular contact provided updates on courses delivered, new trainers available and suggestions for the expansion of Capita's portfolio.
  • Through Alyson's regular contact and Capita's confidence in her ability to source excellent trainers an effective system of notification was established. Once People Vision receives information about courses that need to be filled they contact their consultants and select the ideal person for each course.
  • Alyson designed a continually expanding database which documents the specialist skills of consultants so that training courses can be swiftly allocated to the individual with outstanding abilities and experience in that area.
  • Delegates complete Capita Feedback Forms after each course, enabling People Vision to ensure consistently excellent delivery of courses for Capita.
  • Several People Vision consultants soon became 'regular' subcontracted trainers for Capita after successful delivery of courses and excellent feedback from delegates at Capita centres throughout the UK.
Results
  • Capita now offer courses throughout the UK to People Vision months in advance in addition to the continuing requests for trainers with more pressing deadlines. This effective relationship enables Capita to schedule more courses, thus increasing its profits.
  • People Vision has 'short-listed' a number of consultants whose specialist areas are ideally suited to Capita's courses, and who are regularly selected for Capita work. People Vision continues to expand its existing portfolio of trainers with Capita courses in mind, ensuring that Capita's increasing demands are fully met.
  • In addition to delivering existing Capita-written courses, People Vision has broadened Capita's portfolio by six courses. People Vision has proven ability in writing and delivering exceptional training across issues at the forefront of contemporary Human Resources, including Human Resources as a Business Partner, The Balanced Scorecard, Using Competencies in Business, and Employment Law.
  • People Vision has applied a similar expansion of resources to its relationship with other leading training providers. People Vision has provided writing and delivery of courses such as Human Resources for Personal Assistants, Introduction to Human Resources, Human Resources for Non-Human Resources Managers, and Selection Interviewing.
  • Alyson Pellowe has designed its own quality mechanism, People Vision Feedback Forms, which all consultants return on completion of subcontracted training. This supplement to the existing Capita feedback ensures that she receives information on a range of topics which enable her to improve People Vision's service to Capita and its delegates while meeting the needs and advancing the development of her consultants.

Client Testimonial

'People Vision have more than met our expectations. The variety of excellent trainers that they provide means that we can rely on them to fill even the most specialist courses. I have great confidence in them, and being able to rely on a swift response has made them a valuable resource for Capita.'
