Employer Brand – An excellent retention tool

26 August 2010 Employer Branding

Employer branding is all about how a company is perceived. It is the strategy that companies use to appeal to current and future ideal talent; effective employer brand development really can make all the difference. The employer brand isn’t just about the ad campaigns used by a company for promotional purposes; it is about telling the world what sort of company you are and why your workplace is appealing and unique to employees over all other organisations.

The purpose of employer branding is to make it easier for the employer to attract good workers or even the best talent in the job market. Clearly, if a company has a strong consumer or corporate brand they will have an advantage in employer branding. For example, if a product is a household name or has a strong advertising campaign that gets everyone talking, they are more likely to have a positive employer brand as well.

Here are three reasons why employer branding is important:

1. The need to cut costs and increase productivity. The current economic downturn means that there is more pressure than ever to get the right people in the right jobs and keep them there. Employer branding results in successful recruitment and retention of top talent.

2. Growth and profitability. Hiring and keeping the best people possible is the formula for growth within a company whilst adding a competitive edge over all other rival organisations. The employees within a company are the primary asset and armed with the right experience, skills and knowledge can propel the company on to greater things.

3. Popularity. Everyone wants to work for a company with a great reputation and research has shown that job hunters often turn to family member, friends or colleagues for advice or approval when looking for prospective employers. If a company is viewed as an unpopular employer then this can have a serious knock-on effect on the future of the organisation.

Employer branding is essential for the success of a company so get thinking about how your company is perceived and if there is anything you could do to improve it today.
